ADHD/Executive Function/Student Mentor Coach
Suhel's path to becoming a co-founder of Conduit Education Consulting (CEC) is marked by personal challenges, a transformative journey, and a profound connection with neurodivergent students. His early life was impacted by significant health issues and significant bullying, which led to academic setbacks, including repeating Year 9.
His move to Australia just before Year 11 became the catalyst for change, providing Suhel with the supportive environment he needed to thrive academically, culminating in his studies in Neuroscience at Melbourne University and Biomedical Imaging at Monash University.
While Suhel's passion for teaching and tutoring blossomed through his university years, his true calling emerged over seven years of working closely with neurodivergent students, particularly those with ADHD. He recognized that these students possessed the ability but often lacked the means to express and communicate their understanding effectively. This insight resonated deeply with him, as he saw reflections of his own struggles in their experiences. Through his collaboration with Samantha, Suhel learned that the skills necessary to support these students were rooted in Executive Functions (EFs). This understanding revolutionised his approach; it helped him to better empower students to develop and showcase their abilities.
Driven by the transformative impact of this work, Suhel dedicated himself to mentoring students in a way that addressed their holistic needs, including emotional, psychological, and foundational aspects essential for learning. This shift in focus aimed at unlocking each student's potential, fostering a belief in their capabilities and enabling them to excel. The joy and fulfilment Suhel finds in hearing a student describe their work together as life-changing are what motivate him.
Together with Samantha, Suhel endeavours to provide this holistic support through CEC, offering a nurturing and understanding environment tailored to the unique strengths and challenges of each child. Their mission is to ensure that every student feels empowered, believed in, and capable of achieving their academic and personal goals.
Samantha's establishment of Conduit Education Consulting (CEC) is deeply rooted in her diverse background, with 25 years of international experience, a multicultural upbringing, alongside personal challenges with her eldest son's diagnosis of twice-exceptional ADHD and navigating different countries and education systems along with 3 of his younger siblings.
Transitioning from a career in banking and finance, then human resource management, mentoring graduates and to obtaining an ICF accredited coaching qualification specialising in ADHD, her journey reflects a commitment to mentoring and empowering children with learning differences. The inception of CEC, co-founded with Suhel, a tutor experienced with ADHD teens, aims to provide holistic educational support tailored to the unique needs of each child.
This initiative seeks to fill a gap in the Australian market for children who are highly able yet face learning challenges, extending support to those needing extra help or advanced learning opportunities.
Samantha's approach emphasizes the importance of understanding and collaborating with the child and their family, advocating for mentors with the education, experience, and sensitivity to address the comprehensive needs of children and adolescents. CEC's philosophy is that effective mentorship can significantly impact a child's academic and personal growth, drawing on Samantha's extensive experience to offer specialized guidance and support.
Samantha plays a pivotal role in providing tailored coaching and support services, catering to the distinctive needs of adults with ADHD and parents of children with ADHD. Her approach integrates a deep understanding of ADHD's complexities with evidence-based strategies to enhance executive function skills, fostering self-regulation, time management, and effective learning techniques. Samantha's engagements are not limited to direct coaching; she also serves as a vital resource for parents, empowering them with the knowledge and tools needed to support their children's developmental journey. Through personalized sessions and workshops, she addresses the unique challenges faced by individuals with ADHD, crafting bespoke strategies that promote long-term skill development and self-sufficiency. Her work stands out for its holistic focus, aiming not only at academic success but also at nurturing life skills that contribute to overall well-being and achievement.
